Hewanorra International Airport, on the outskirts of Vieux Fort, is serviced by Air Canada, Air Jamaica, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta and Virgin Atlantic. Departure tax for all passengers except St. Lucian nationals is EC$54 (or US$20).
Banks
Vieux Fort is host to all the major banks, including Bank of St. Lucia, First Caribbean International Bank, Scotiabank and 1st National Bank. Additionally the Bank of St. Lucia has a branch at Hewanorra International Airport.
Transport
The Southern and New Frontier Taxi Associations are responsible for transporting airport arrivals around the island and can also be booked for local trips. Drivers make friendly, knowledgeable guides and prices vary. Agree on a price with the driver before setting off. Additionally St. Lucia has a vast network of minibuses that can be hailed anywhere just by sticking out your arm. A trip from Vieux Fort to Castries costs EC$7 and to Soufriere costs EC$5. Churches
About 67% of St. Lucians are Roman Catholic. Other denominations include Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of the Nazarene, Church of Christ, Christian Science and the Salvation Army.
Media
The two major newspapers are the Voice and the Star, both issued on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Additionally the Mirror is published on a Friday and both One Caribbean and the Crusader are published on a Saturday. The main TV channels are HTS on channel 34 and DBS on channel 35. Channel 2 is the Government channel.
Shopping
Vieux Fort offers a wide range of shops in the town centre, as well as several shopping malls, including Gablewoods Mall, located five minutes out of town to the north-west.
