The Fregate Island nature trail along St. Lucia's Atlantic Coast offers several scenic views on a mile-long trail circling the national park. The tour calls on the breeding ground of St. Lucia's Fregate bird population, a locale that is also home to a number of rare species of birds, Boa Constrictors, and some unusual forms of vegetation. Tours are arranged through the St. Lucia National Trust.
Mamiku Gardens
Situated 20 minutes from Vieux Fort, on the east coast highway, Mamiku Gardens are carved out of woodlands that circle the hill where the ruins of the old 18th century de Micoud Estate House are located.
Take a leisurely stroll along forest paths and you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of many different tropical plants, trees and flowers. Feel the atmosphere of battle and let your imagination run wild, or rest a while on rustic benches by the side of rock pools and imagine estate workers in olden times, washing the owners' clothes.
Latille Falls
This beautiful hidden treasure of St. Lucia is filled with luscious fruits, blooming flowers, thriving plants, shading trees, and vibrant waterfalls. A walk on the waterfall trails or a relaxing night under the moon and stars, amidst the scent of healthy vegetation, are adventures not to be missed. For more information, contact the Gardens at (758) 454-0202.
Maria Islands
This protected National Park can only be visited with a guide. It is not accessible to the public between May 15th and July 31st (bird breeding season). Two endemic reptiles live on this little island: the colorful lizard and the rare but small harmless Kouwes snake.
Anse Sable
An easy to reach, beautiful but windy, white sandy beach looking out over the Maria Islands. This is one of the pre-eminent places for wind surfing. There are constant on shore trade winds.
Bar and restaurant facilities are located next to the Tornado Surf Centre and there are nice sheltered terraces. This beach is certainly recommended for wind surfers and sun-worshippers.
Moule-a-Chique
At the extreme southern tip of St. Lucia is Moule a Chique, featuring the world's second highest lighthouse, situated atop a 730-foot hill. The island's southernmost point offers panaromic views of the Pitons (a World Heritage Site) and other prominent mountains Morne Gomier and Morne Grand Magazin further north. To the east is Piton St. Esprit and Morne Durocher. Nearby are the Maria Islands, home to protected species Maria Islands Ground Lizard and the harmless Kuowess, thought to be the world's rarest snake. If the weather is clear, Moule a Chique affords you a most spectacular view of the neighbouring island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines just 21 miles away to the south.
